Alain Schroeder

Photojournalist & World Traveler

Alain Schroeder is a highly celebrated Belgian visual storyteller whose professional life spans four decades and is defined by both commercial success and critical photojournalistic acclaim. His career began unexpectedly in sports photography, where his camera captured the world's top athletes, resulting in his work gracing over 500 magazine covers throughout the 1980s. This foundation of speed and precision later informed his eye for documentary work.

In 1989, Alain co-founded the Reporters photo agency in Belgium, growing it into a significant operation. Around 2013, he sold his shares to pursue his passion for personal projects, focusing on long-term photo essays that aim to "tell a story in 10-15 pictures" with cinematic vision. It is this dedication that has earned him a staggering number of international honors, including multiple wins in World Press Photo, Siena Awards, POTY contest, TPOTY awards, Visa pour l’Image, Pollux awards, Lens culture, Smithsonian awards, Nikon Press Photo Awards, and so on. His celebrated photo stories are characterized by their compelling social relevance, unique access, and a subtle Belgian surrealist streak that reveals the extraordinary in everyday global struggles.
