Conflict Zones Photojournalist

Claire Thomas is a Welsh photojournalist whose work focuses on conflict, humanitarian crises, and social justice. With a career spanning over a decade, she has photographed in some of the most challenging regions in the world — including Iraq, Ukraine, Syria, and across the Middle East. Her images have appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic. and she has worked with organizations such as Amnesty International, Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, CARE or OXFAM and the United Nations Development Program.

Claire’s storytelling is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for the people she photographs. Whether embedded with medics in a war zone or capturing quiet rituals in Mongolia, her work seeks not just to document, but to connect. In 2023 she won the  Amnesty International UK Media Awards for Outstanding Impact, for a project I did in northeast Syria for The Sunday Times Magazine— a testament to her powerful and compassionate approach to visual storytelling.
