Lucy Monckton

Lucy Monckton (UK) is a young wildlife and macro photographer from Gloucestershire, England, whose fascination with the natural world began during childhood. Encouraged by family walks, visits to wildlife parks and school trips to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, she developed an early curiosity for animals and the small details in nature that are often overlooked.

Lucy began photography using her father’s Canon equipment and gradually developed her own approach through patience, experimentation and time spent outdoors. Her work ranges from intimate macro studies of insects and flowers to expressive wildlife portraits, including Arctic foxes photographed in Iceland. Whether working close to home or farther afield, she looks for unusual behaviour, fleeting moments and creative ways to reveal the character of her subjects.

In 2024, Lucy was named Youth Winner of Amateur Photographer of the Year, having previously shared the title in 2021. While studying Psychology at the University of Exeter, she continues to develop her photography across different genres, finding connections between her interest in behaviour and the way she observes wildlife through the camera.

As a young woman building a career in a field that remains predominantly male, Lucy hopes her journey will encourage other girls and young women to explore wildlife photography. With curiosity, patience and a growing creative voice, she continues to find inspiration in both the dramatic encounters and the small wonders of the natural world.
