Lucy Monckton is a 20-year-old photographer from Gloucestershire, England, whose passion for wildlife and macro photography has already earned her international recognition. In 2024, she was named Youth Winner of Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOY), a title she had previously shared in 2021.
Fascinated by the natural world since childhood, Lucy first picked up a camera through her dad’s Canon gear and found early inspiration in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibitions she visited during school.
Now studying Psychology at Exeter University, Lucy balances her academic life with her growing career in photography. From the intimate details of a bee emerging from a flower to striking portraits of Arctic foxes, her images reveal both patience and a sharp creative eye. With now her Canon R5 in hand, she continues to push her skills across genres while staying true to her love for the wild and the small wonders often overlooked. She hopes to inspire other young women to enter into the predominantly male field of wildlife photography.
