A year ago, this was a story still unfolding — today, it looks very different.
In this episode, we welcome back wildlife photographer Ian Wood for a follow-up conversation that feels very different from the first time we spoke.
When Ian last joined the show, he had just won the People’s Choice Award at Wildlife Photographer of the Year with his striking image of a badger — a photograph that brought renewed attention to the ongoing badger cull in England. At the time, it felt like part of a much larger and ongoing fight.
Fast forward a year, and the story has moved on.
Ian returns after winning the documentary category at the British Wildlife Photography Awards with a carefully constructed six-image series focused on the same issue. In our conversation, he shares how he approached building that series — from developing the idea and planning each image, to the challenges of documenting something so complex and emotionally charged.
But this episode goes beyond the photography itself. We talk about what has happened in the UK over the past months — including the major positive shift around the badger cull, and the wider conversations around fox hunting — and what it feels like to witness a real change after years of effort, frustration, and uncertainty.
Along the way, Ian reflects on the role photography can play in all of this. Not as a solution on its own, but as a way of keeping a story visible — something that can inspire, inform, or sometimes simply make people stop and think.
And as always, the conversation doesn’t stay only in the heavy moments. We talk about swallows returning in spring, building hides in the countryside, and the quieter, everyday experiences that continue alongside the bigger stories.
So grab a coffee and join us for this conversation with Ian Wood.
If you haven’t heard our first conversation with Ian yet, it’s definitely worth going back — it adds a whole extra layer to this story.
