What do you get when you mix a girl from a small village in North Wales, a childhood dream of working with Sir David Attenborough, and a whole lot of persistence? Well... eventually, you get Sue Flood🐧📸
Sue's route into the BBC wasn't exactly straightforward. She studied zoology, left a job she hated, volunteered her way around the world, learned to dive, kept knocking on the BBC's door... and eventually got a three-day contract because another researcher simply didn't turn up. Those three days turned into 11 years at the BBC Natural History Unit. Not bad, eh? 😄
Along the way, Sue worked with Sir David Attenborough on The Blue Planet and Planet Earth, spent months in some seriously wild places and collected enough stories to fill several coffees. There's Arctic sea ice, diving with whales, getting stranded on a piece of ice... and yes, even a marriage proposal while waiting to be rescued🧊🐋
But this isn't just a conversation about wildlife photography. It's about following something you love, making your own luck, taking the opportunities when they appear and occasionally finding yourself somewhere you never expected to be.
And this is only Part One. Part Two takes us even further south, with penguins, Sir Michael Palin, more penguins, and Sue's next chapter as a photographer, conservationist and author🐧
