"Sue Flood: And Now for Something Completely Wild (Part 2)"

Welcome to the Adventure Emporium! Antarctica? Penguins? Michael Palin? Shackleton's Hut? We seem to have the lot. Sadly, we're completely sold out of comfy couches. πŸ˜„

In Part Two of my conversation with Sue Flood, we pick up where we left off β€” with Sue having found her way into the BBC Natural History Unit and then taking her career in an even wilder direction.

After 11 years working on landmark productions including The Blue Planet and Planet Earth, Sue eventually left the BBC to concentrate on photography. Since then, the polar regions have become a huge part of her life. Antarctica alone has called her back more than 50 times, taking her into some of the most extraordinary environments on the planet.

And this isn't simply a story about photographing wildlife. Sue talks about what keeps drawing her back to Antarctica, her fascination with emperor penguins, diving beneath the ice, visiting Shackleton's hut, and some of the encounters that have stayed with her long after she returned home.

There are also some rather wonderful people along the way.

Sue tells me about Sir Michael Palin β€” from their first meeting at Buckingham Palace to travelling together in Antarctica β€” and we discover how their paths have crossed again through Sue's photography and books. She also shares stories about her long relationship with Sir David Attenborough, including one wonderfully unexpected phone call.

And then there is Ian Dawson, with whom Sue founded Midnight Sun Voyages, creating photographic journeys to some of the world's most remote regions. Their work combines exploration, photography, conservation and education, and has now led to their new book and exhibition, Midnight Sun.

As always with Sue, there are plenty of stories along the way β€” some extraordinary, some funny, and a few that sound as though they might have escaped from a Monty Python sketch πŸ˜‚

So grab yourself a coffee, forget the comfy couch β€” apparently they're all sold out β€” and join me for Part Two of my conversation with the wonderful Sue Flood. πŸ§πŸ§ŠπŸ“Έ
