Bob Krist

Bob Krist (USA) is a travel photographer, filmmaker, writer and educator whose career spans more than four decades of visual storytelling and exploration. His assignments have taken him to all seven continents, including more than 30 years of work for National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler, documenting the character of places and the everyday lives of people with curiosity, warmth and a strong sense of story.

A former professional actor, Bob built a career photographing everything from sacred festivals and remote communities to bustling city streets and quiet corners of the world. His images have appeared in publications including National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, GEO and Islands, while his work has received recognition from Pictures of the Year, Communication Arts, World Press Photo and the Society of American Travel Writers, which named him Travel Photographer of the Year three times.

As photography moved into the digital age, Bob expanded his storytelling into filmmaking, producing award-winning travel documentaries and commissioned films while continuing to explore the people, traditions and sense of place that have always been central to his work. A Sony Artisan of Imagery, he has also worked extensively as an author, speaker and educator, sharing practical knowledge and stories gathered from decades of life on the road.

Bob is the author and photographer of numerous books, including In Tuscany, created with author Frances Mayes, and Old Souls & Timeless Places, a retrospective of his black-and-white portrait and landscape work. Now dividing his time between Maine and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, he continues to photograph and make films with the same belief that meaningful travel photography is not about collecting beautiful locations, but about understanding people, culture and the spirit of a place.
