David Valdez is an American photographer best known for his work with President George H.W. Bush. After discovering photography while serving in the U.S. Air Force, his career took him to Washington, D.C., where he eventually became Bush’s personal photographer during his years as Vice President.
When George H.W. Bush became President in 1989, David was appointed Chief Official White House Photographer, documenting the presidency as well as the quieter moments of life behind the scenes. His close relationship with the Bush family gave him remarkable access, allowing him to photograph not only political events and world leaders, but also the personal and family moments surrounding the President.
After leaving the White House, David continued his career in photography, including working for the Walt Disney Company, before returning to Texas. He later founded the Texas Photography Festival, continuing his involvement with photography and the photographic community.
Across his career, David’s photographs have created a remarkable visual record of American political history, presidential life, and the people behind the public roles.
